OUR VALUES, YOUR CHOICE
ISBSS is a values-based institution where the students, faculty and staff will be encouraged to be a source of inspiration for and play a positive role in their community. All will be encouraged to adopt ethical and respectful principles in all their interactions with others, and to value others.
By deciding to attend ISBSS, students understand the particularity of the institution and choose to be part of this values-based experience and caring atmosphere. Every enrolled undergraduate student pursuing a degree at ISBSS signs a "Community Values Agreement" in which they acknowledge their awareness of and adhesion to the ISBSS University commitment to embrace core ethical values. The students are invited to take some time review these values as they try to keep a good standing status with their local communities and to enhance the benefits of the University's educational philosophy.
A Holistic Approach
Although ISBSS delivers all its education online, it adopts a holistic approach emphasizing the thriving of its community. Through the office of student support, a series of activities and programs are developed to help the students and her/his community to thrive intellectually, socially, culturally, emotionally, and spiritually. Co-curriculum credits are available to students. These activities and programs should help the students take care of their mental health, artistic capability, physical health, and social engagement. In addition, they are complement the students’ academic degrees.
The combination of academic curricular and the co-curricular education ensure that ISBSS participates in the holistic thriving of its community. To demonstrate their participation in these activities, the students will have to provide any support, including videos of her/his participation.
A minimum of two co-curricular credits will be required for each semester chosen from the non-exhaustive list below, according to three activities per area.
1) Cultural: Visit a local museum, Painting/photography, Theater, Host a debate tournament, Have a science fair, TEDx Speakers, Alumni speaker, Multi-cultural cooking lessons
2) Community: Volunteering in the local community, Volunteer at a homeless shelter
3) Health: Healthy cooking lessons, Sport (swimming, soccer, football, walking, jogging, etc.), Participation in health seminars, Fitness, A portfolio of a healthy lifestyle that includes a balanced and healthy diet, at least four-hour weekly of physical exercise, sleeping hours (a minimum of six hours), and drinking habits (a minimum of 6 glass of water a day).
4) Spiritual: Religion course, Biblical debates, Ethical values debates or seminars
ISBSS Student Association (ISBSSA)
In agreement and under the supervision of the vice-rector in charge of student affairs, a student association (ISBSSA) can be created, but is not mandatory due to the online nature of the university. The ISBSSA executive bureau will consist of a president, a vice-president, a secretary, a treasurer, a person in charge of spiritual activities, and a person in charge of cultural and educational activities. The other members will include three students for each program. These responsibilities may allocate to students six credits of the 12 credits for extracurricular activities. Under the supervision of the VP for Student Affairs, it will coordinate social, cultural, and spiritual activities to respond to students’ needs. It will operate as a venue where students’ concerns will be expressed as a collective voice.
ISBSSA Publications
ISBSSA also will coordinate the publishing activities/documents related to students’ live and activities.
Details about ISBSSA and its organizations will be given in the "ISBSS University Student Association Constitution and Bylaws."
Any future need for any student organizations or clubs will be considered by ISBSS administrative committee.
Counseling Testing and Spiritual Center
An Online Counseling, Testing and Spiritual Center (OCTSC) will be created. It will be available to all students and employees regardless of their location. It will be a certified center with licensed staff (Psychologist, Counselors, Pastors). It will provide timely, comprehensive, and primary short-term counseling to students and employees. The Center will also orientate, depending on the case, to local professionals when needed.
The OCTSC will adopt a holistic approach to help students thrive emotionally, spiritually, physically and socially. The Center will seek accreditation from the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS).
